As the winter darkness penetrated deeper and deeper into the shortening days, our hearts were enlightened and warmed by the light of a special care and kindness - the support we received from distant Japan through the Komaru Transportation Foundation, led by the Honorary Consul General of Lithuania Komaru Shigehiro.
15 years ago, our friends who first arrived from Japan spent the night folding origami cranes with their own hands before visiting the hospital and meeting the children in the ward. All these years, these woodpeckers, symbols of hope, have been guiding us along the path of a sensitive friendship that does not have to be separated by thousands of kilometres between countries.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Honorary Consul General Komaru-san for his support in making us feel stronger in our daily fight against the disease, and to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Egidijus Meilūnas, who handed over our humble letter of gratitude.
Shigehiro Komaru, Honorary Consul General of Lithuania in Japan and Head of Fukuyama Transporting, is convinced that the foundation of good relations between countries is based on close ties between people. Therefore, Shigehiro Komaru encourages not only bilateral business contacts, but also supports youth exchanges between Lithuania and Japan, cooperation between universities and cultural relations. He also organised the second direct flight between Tokyo and Vilnius (the first in 2020), which brought together a group of more than 170 Japanese.
Shigehiro Komaru and the Foundation also support Lithuanian children. During the meeting, the Honorary Consul was presented with a certificate of appreciation for the support and cooperation of the Rugutė Charity and Support Foundation, which cares for children with oncological diseases and their families.
