For fourteen years the fund’s main goal has been a close collaboration with the doctors to ensure a more advance treatment for the children. We chose this goal because of our experience and hardships during the treatment of our own daughter. We are confident that the new generation of medication, genetic research, ability to participate in clinical trials, more advance nursing and medical devices mean higher survival rates and long-term remission.

The Foundation provides a wide range of charities for children with oncological diseases and their families - financial, psychological, medicines, medical devices, hygiene goods charity, if necessary, pays for the provided individual consultations or part of the treatment in foreign clinics.
Pagal gautus šeimų, auginančių onkologine liga sergantį vaiką, prašymus, įvertinus prašyme nurodyto poreikio svarbą, šeimoms teikiama kasmėnesinė arba vienkartinė parama. Vakui susirgus oncologie liga pakinta šeimos finansinė situacija: stipriai sumažėja pajamos, nes hospitalizacijos metu vienas iš tėvų turi slaugyti vaiką ligoninėje ir ilgą laiką negali dirbti, be to, žymiai padidėja šeimos patiriamos išlaidos. Su sunkiai sergančiu vaiku kuo daugiau laiko stengiasi praleisti ir kiti šeimos nariai, todėl, tais atvejais, kai šeima givena toliau nuo miesto, kuriame yra gydymo įstaiga, daug lėšų tenka skirti kelionės išlaidoms. Ligoninės maitinimas skiriamas tik gydomam vaikui, todėl jį slaugantis asmuo turi maitintis savo lėšomis. Onkologinių ligų gydymas citostatiniais vastais dažnai turi stiprų šalutinį poveikį, kuriam mažinti reikalingus vaistus valstybė ne visuomet kompensuoja. Įvairias slaugos priemones ligonių šeimos taip pat turi įsigyti savo lėšomis. Už fondo suteiktą paramą šeimos įsigijo būtinų vaistų, slaugos priemonių, maisto produktų, apmokėjo kelionių ar kitas susidariusias išlaidas. Taib buvo užtikrinta ne tik geresnė fizinė vaikų būklė, bet ir pagerinta emocinę, psichologinę ir dvasinę pusiausvyra, kuri turi didžiulę įtaką gydymo sėkmei ir sveikimui.
We strive to ensure that young patients treated at the Oncohematology Center of Vilnius Children's Hospital and the Oncology and Hematology Sector of Kaunas Clinic of Children's Diseases are provided with the most modern treatment equipment and tools that facilitate the work of doctors and nurses. Only by providing a full-fledged treatment process can we expect better results.
Rugutės namai, which has been operating for thirteen years, is one of the most cozy projects. The main goal of this project is to provide free accommodation for children with oncological diseases and their family members as needed. The Foundation seeks to ensure that children with Rugutės Namai, located near Vilnius Children's Hospital, have the opportunity to stay in a cozy home environment, to rest from complicated treatment and to be in the hospital.
Trumpas atokvėpis drauge su artimaisiais sugrąžina saugumo jausmą ir apsaugo visą šeimą nuo išsiskyrimo bei bendrumo jausmo praradimo. Laikinai apsigyventi šiuose namuose galimybę turi ir mažojo paciento artimieji, atvykę jo aplankyti iš tolimų vietovių, ir tie šeimos nariai, kurie dienos metu slaugo vaiką ligoninėje.

Nuo 2020 metų, kai izoliacija tapo itin svarbi dėl rizikos užsikrėsti naujuoju koronavirusu (COVID-19), „Rugutės namuose“ apgyvendiname tik po vieną šeimą.
„Rugutės namuose“ taip pat vyksta ir įvairiausi fondo projektai: pasiruošimo darbai „Palankaus vėjo malūnėlių“ akcijai, kurių metu gaminami vėjo malūnėliai; kartu su svečiais iš Švedijos puošiama eglutė ir minima Liucijos diena; vyksta neatlygintinos kraujo donorystės akcijos „Padovanok lašelį“. Čia jaukiam pašnekesiui susėdama su fondo rėmėjais ir visais vaikus mylinčiais ir fondo veikla besidominčiais žmonėmis.
The Fund invites to follow its example and give a droplet of blood for children with the oncological diseases as well as to become active promoters of gratuitous donorship. Two times a year the action Droplet a Blood is being organized at the Rugutė‘s Home.
In 2016, the fund initiated the continuous project Genetic Tests for More Targeted and Effective Treatment of Every Little Patient. In 2016, Lietuvos energija Support Foundation donated EUR 56,000.00 for this project; EUR 8,000.00 was allocated by Nato Charity Bazzar.
2016 metais fondas pradėjo vykdyti tęstinį projektą „Genetiniai tyrimai tikslingesniam ir efektyvesniam kiekvieno mažojo paciento gydymui“.
2016 metų rudenį įvyko mokslinė diskusija tarp Lietuvos sveikatos mokslų universiteto Kauno klinikų Vaikų onkohematologijos poskyrio vadovės Dr. Giedrės Rutkauskienės ir kompanijos OncoDNA (Belgija) mokslinių darbuotojų Dr. Jean-François Laes ir Dr. Fiona Demol. Buvo nuspręsta, kad sudėtinius onkologinių solidinių navikų genetinius ir kitus molekulinius tyrimus tikslingiausia atlikti vaikams, sergantiems tik aukšto piktybiškumo gliomomis. Šia liga sergančių vaikų išgyvenamumo prognozės labai žemos, o iki šiol taikytas gydymas nėra veiksmingas. Atliekant sudėtinius ir progresyvius genetinius tyrimus, tikimasi, kad šiems vaikams, priklausomai nuo naviko genetinių mutacijų, bus skiriamas tikslesnis ir labiau specifinis gydymas, padėsiantis įveikti ligą ir pasiekti remisiją. Vėliau prijungtos grupės vaikų, kuriems diagnozuoti ir kitų sričių navikai.
Nuo 2016 m. rugpjūčio mėn. 26-iems vaikams, kuriems buvo diagnozuoti itin aukšto piktybiškumo centrinės nervų sistemos navikai ir kiti navikai, atlikti išsamūs OncoDEEP&TRACE tyrimai. Remiantis gautais rezultatais, kiekvienam pacientui buvo sugeneruota detali biologinė ataskaita ir skirtas individualizuotas chemoterapinis ar taikinių terapijos gydymas.
Iki šios dienos už OncoDEEP&TRACE tyrimus fondas sumokėjo 77 077 Eur.
The Fund pays attention to children’s palliative care. We think that it is a must to understand the needs of sick child and his family during this period of treatment and to respect their decision to spend it at home or at hospital. Because of that, the Fund has bought oxygen concentrator, secretion aspirator, pulse oximeter and other equipment in 2007 and tries to ensure the quality palliative care at home for children who leave the hospital.
In 2012, the idea of Eugenijus Mačiukas, the father of a boy with an oncological disease, to donate two aquariums to children undergoing treatment at the Paediatric Clinic of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences was implemented. Professionally equipped large and beautiful aquariums with live fish and special vegetation not only provide a feeling of comfort to the hospital premises but also have a psychotherapeutic effect on young patients, i.e., help them calm down, relieve tension and fear, and forget pain and strengthen their spirit. Better emotional well-being of children ensures the effectiveness of treatment of the disease and faster healing processes. A pleasant environment that evokes good emotions is especially important for children whose hospitalization lasts for many months.
Children undergoing oncological treatment have to spend a lot of time in a hospital away from their friends and family members. In order to improve the psychological condition of the sick children, the Fund granted the right to use the mobile Internet free of charge to all children treated in the Paediatric Oncology and Haematology Sector of Kaunas Clinics.
One of the most sensitive projects of the Fund aims to fulfil dreams of the sick children. They dream of various things.
The Fund pays particular attention to preparation and spread of information on children’s oncological diseases and care to the families with the sick children. All information prepared is published on the website www.rugute.lt.
By the year 2019 we have already contributed 30 thousand euros to the renovation of wards in Children’s Hospital, Affiliate of Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Klinikos Onco-Hematology Centre. During the course of treatment, the hospitals become the second home for the children. That is why we strive to make it as cozy as possible so that the patient and the caring person could comfortably perform certain procedures, rest and enjoy home-cooked food. Currently eight wards still need renovation, each containing two young patients.
Fondas organizuoja tėvelių, netekusių vaikų, savitarpio pagalbos grupės susitikimus, kuriuose siekiama kartu ieškoti būdų, kaip palengvinti netekties skausmą. Susitikimuose, organizuojamuose kiekvieno mėnesio paskutinį šeštadienį, dalyvauja Jaunimo psichologinės paramos centro psichologai, padedantys tėvams geriau suvokti netekties psichologiją, etapus, kuriuos reikia išgyventi praradus vaiką. Susitikimų metu tėvai dalinasi patirtimi ir išgyvenimais.

After remission is diagnosed, children often suffer from complications and cannot avoid hospital stays. At the start of 2015, the fund kindly welcomed the offer of the Gotlund family, Jurga and Fredrik, for children to spend a week-long vacation at their beautiful Can Fanals villa in Mallorca and started the continuous project Rehabilitation Camp in Mallorca for Children who Suffered from Oncological Diseases. The goal of this project is to provide quality rehabilitation for the children in remission. In 2018, ten children who had battled cancer and their families enjoyed the warm waters of the Mediterranean Sea and admired the beautiful nature. Rehabilitation and rest in Mallorca bring great benefits to children’s emotional health.

Each year the Fund organizes its nice action Christmas Journey. During the action children patronized by the Fund are visited and Christmas presents are given.

In 2006 the Fund launched one of its projects – the meeting The Island of Friends. Treatment of oncological diseases is a very complex and time-consuming process that leaves its mark on each aspect of child‘s life: physical health, psychological well-being, relationship with family members and friends.
The aim of this meeting is to bring families that share the same lot in life together, encouraging them to share social and medical information, experiences, thoughts and emotions and to enjoy being together. During the event we make sure children have a special day where they enjoy various shows, play with their beloved celebrities and spend time with their fellow hospital mates in an environment other than a hospital.
